Iwas going to be leaving in the morning, so I wanted our last night together to be memorable for the both of us. I had several hot and uncomfortable nights ahead of me, and I wanted good scenes to play off in my head. I already had many, but I was greedy and wanted more. I also wanted to remind her while I was away how perfect we were together. I wanted to leave my mark as it were.

Amber asked me why I was looking at her like that.

“Like what?”

She sighed and said, “Like that. You look like a lion out on the savannah, and I don’t have a hope in the world.”

I agreed. “You don’t, if you were trying to get away.”

I saw her shiver and I couldn’t help the way she made me feel. Her hair was flowing down around her shoulders and her lovely eyes weren’t meeting mine. What was on her mind? I had a lot on my mind, but it still didn’t amount to much. It amounted to me having my way with Amber. That was as far as my great thoughts were going. She was gorgeous and I wanted to get close. I was sure that all we had to do was figure something out. I didn’t know what it was about Amber and that confused look, but it was so damn lovely.

“You can either tell me willingly, Amber, or I will get it out of you another way.”

Her brow went up with the comment, and I had to wonder how she was going to take it. She was certainly not immune to my threats, and I could see her wondering to herself if I could do what I said I would do. She must have decided that I could, because she didn’t argue with me about it. Instead, she looked at me finally and I could see that she was really bothered. “Amber, I am going to be back in a couple of days, honest. You shouldn’t be upset like this. It’s going to be okay.”

She shook her head and wiped her tears. I was basically told that I didn’t know what I was talking about, and I asked her what was going on. Amber just shook her head, sadly. “It’s not bad news, I guess, just not the news that I was ready to share. I want you to know though, so I guess I am just going to say it.”

Amber was talking to herself, not to me. I didn’t know what she was going on about, and when I asked her, she didn’t seem to have an answer. Not one that came quickly anyway. I will be honest. I was all worked up by the time she came out with it, though to be fair, it was a pretty big situation she had to tell me about.

“I’m pregnant.”

It took a minute for her words to soak in, and I just looked at her like she had lost her mind. That wasn’t
